Program Notes for U.S. Hooray!

Composer: David Miller
Arranger: David Miller
Published by: Silver Clef Music

In 1976, the entire country was involved in our bicentennial celebration.

As the University of Florida Gator Band was preparing for their festive 1976 halftime shows, director Frank Wickes approached composer David Miller, asking him to write a special medley of patriotic tunes for the big bicentennial celebration halftime show.

David came through for him, and the result was U.S. Hooray, which you are about to hear. This work was premiered in front of over 80,000 people in November, 1976, by the University of Florida Gator Band and Gator Chorus.
In this medley, you will hear the tunes “This Is My Country,” “You’re A Grand Old Flag,” “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” and “God Bless America.”

Ladies and gentlemen, we are pleased to bring you [name of the singing group, if one is present] [and] the [name of the band] band, in David Miller’s celebrational U. S. Hooray!
