Program Notes for The Sound Of Music

Composer: Richard Rogers
Arranger: Robert Russell Bennett

Richard Rodgers published his first song at age 15.

Following the death of his first collaborator, Lorenz Hart, Rodgers teamed with Oscar Hammerstein to produce nine Broadway shows, including Oklahoma. Carousel, South Pacific, Pal Joey, The King and I, Flower Drum Song, State Fair and the show whose medley you are about to hear, The Sound of Music.

In this medley, arranged by Robert Russell Bennett, you will hear the title song, The Sound of Music, along with How Can Love Survive?, The Lonely Goatherd, A Few Of My Favorite Things, Sixteen Going On Seventeen, So Long, Farewell, Do-Re-Mi, Edelweiss, An Ordinary Couple, No Way To Stop It, Maria, and Climb Every Mountain.

If you’ve seen the movie but not the stage version of this musical, there are two tunes in this medley that were not in the movie. See if you can identify which they are.

Sit back now and relax, as The [name of band] Band plays the familiar and beautiful themes from The Sound Of Music.
